Skyband's broadband & wifi hotspot wireless coverage areas include Blantyre, Limbe, Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Zomba and Cape McClear.
With state-of-the-art access points and base-stations, Skyband covers the main business centres as well as providing coverage into residential areas.
Base-stations have a range of about 25Km and coverage is essentially line of site, however depending on location and proximity to an access point, a wireless signal may be obtained without direct line of sight.
Skyband's Alvarion BreezeNET Pro.11 Networks
SkyBand's wireless system is an IEEE 802.11 compliant wireless network designed to provide high performance wireless point-to-point and point-to-multipoint connections.
The wireless system uses Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) Technology in the 2.4Ghz ISM band, and incorporates security and encryption.
The system has been designed for maximum performance and reliability and offers speeds of up to 3Mbps up to a range of 30km.
Skyband's NEW Alvarion BreezeMAX Networks
WiMAX is a standards-based wireless technology that provides high-throughput broadband connections over long distances. WiMAX can be used for a number of applications, including "last mile" broadband connections, hotspots and cellular backhaul, and high-speed enterprise connectivity for business.
Skyband's Alvarion BreezeMAX Network is the first of its kind in Malawi and operates on our own 3.5Ghz Frequency. There is no interference from other operators, and this enables us to better manage and plan our networks. The Network is capable of delivering speeds of up to 12Mbps, with near-line-of-sight (NLOS) Coverage up to 50Km.
Future Expansion
As our customer base increases, Skyband will be upgrading bandwidth and adding additional Access Points in these three main centres, as well as expanding our coverage to include Thyolo, Mulanje, Balaka, Ntcheu, Dedza, Salima, Nchalo and Mangochi.
